Pennsylvania High School Helmet Project

Throwback Designs

I want to describe the Throwback designs that we are going to publish on the PA Helmet Project site. Please note that our intent is only to represent the helmet design, the shell, face mask, and striping colors, and the logo decals. No attempt is being made here to illustrate the physical variations of helmets produced by different manufacturers, or the many different styles of face masks.

We do not intend to show changes in the physical structure of helmets over the years so please do not remind me that players did not wear Revolution helmets in 1982. Believe me, I remember getting my first suspension helmet issued to me back in 1978. Then we upgraded to the state-of-the-art cement-like inner pads of the MaxPro helmet. Ah, those were the days!

Think of it this way: Like the NFL teams do these days, they'll wear a historic design with their modern equipment. Likewise, think of your favorite team busting out of the locker room Friday night against your rival in helmets that have the same design worn by your school in 1976.

Listed here are schools where we have added at least 4 throwback designs:

If you can provide a good photo of a helmet worn by your team years ago, please contact us for further details.

Sons of Thunder Powerlifting

While TMBK Sports sponsors the PA Helmet Project site, the volunteers who do the research, the graphics, and keep all this great stuff up to date do this strictly because of their passion for PA high school football. So please, why not show your appreciation for their efforts and consider a donation.
